Today we began to rehearse scene 5 and then we rehearsed scene 7 in our extra rehearsal time. Scene 6 has already been blocked and rehearsed so we jumped straight to scene 7.
I have written about this scene and the progress we have made in my SCENES blog, which contains every scene so far. We had a lot of discussions about Hitler, and how he addressed the public. We watched a few videos of Hitler giving his famous speeches to the Nazi parties and members of the public, and we watched in detail how he uses his arms, hands and facial expressions in his speeches and we want to portray this through Arturo Ui, the speech Max gave today as Ui was very much inspired by these videos of Hitler. If you watch the video of Max and then the one of Hitler speakign about the jews, you can see how Max has incorporated the way Hitler uses gests as part of his speeches, it is very captivating yet dark and disturbing.
I also had an idea today for one of our scenes. I feel it would be effective and powerful to show a video of the Nazi Party marching all together in one of the scenes, probably one of the scenes were Ui is coming into power and is becoming more popular and idolised. These videos are so powerful o watch and they show the Nazi party unifying and just how powerful and passionate they were about Hitler. I thought it was look creative and effective in a scene to have this play in the background(without the music) I feel it is key to incorporate all different types of historical meanings in the scenes, whether it be videos, pictures, signs, gests ect.
